    This is probably a dumb question
    can I take the locking hubs out of a 72 3/4 ton D44
    and put them in a 74 non lock out D44
    I ve never had hubs apart before so i dont know ? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

    yes, if they are both internal type hubs. swap everything out up to the locking nuts.

    Actually i dont think you can, My 72 had External hubs while everything ive seen from 73 up has had internal hubs. They are not interchangeable.

    I have never seen a 1/2-ton external hub. They are only on 3/4-tons. All the internal hubs are interchangable (even 10 bolts).

    If your '74 Dana 44 is a 3/4-ton, and the full-time hubs look like this, they will swap fine.

    The external hub design was used on 3/4-tons until mid-77.

    That is an internal full time hub w/203 xfer. External types were only on 3/4ton. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
