If I were to cut a 73-75 windshield frame off, should I just cut it as far down on the sides as I can? How do I pull the windshield? Do I need to bother with the rubber seal crap?

Are you converting yours to a full convertable....... If so cut it down as low as possible to make sure you have area to trim it when your doing the swap..... To remove the glass I would cut the rubber to get the glass out.... It's probably hard and will brake the glass when you work at removing the rubber....Just buy new rubber when you finish

Still not sure yet... If I take the rubber off the front can I just kick the damn thing out from inside?

This is what I heard from a shop who has done several of these conversions. Cut the windshield posts at the middle, stick a piece of square stock inside the posts, weld the square stock to the posts and be done with it. The guy actually supported his weight from the top of the windshield frame after the mod so it is very sturdy.
BTW: when you get the 73-75 frame get as much of it as possible.

You certainly should be able to - just use a sharp carpet knife and knock the whole front side of the seal off - it should basically fall out after that.

There is a locking strip in the rubber gasket around the windshield. Take the strip out and carefully push the windshield out from the inside out, starting at one side and working your way over to the other. I just had my glass replaced and watched the whole thing. It came out easier than I thought it would.

Good idea, I wonder what size of stock? I guess I'll find out when I hack. :-)

The biggest size that'll fit inside I would guess.

Use a piece of piano wire with one person on the inside and one person on the outside and saw it around the window and, well, thats it, there you go, have a nice day.

Yeah, tou can help me e-sand and e-paint. I will cut the top off myself prolly and maybe have Tim (although he doesn't know it yet) weld it on for me then have a body place finish the hole on the bed side, that's about it. I won't be able to do this until I get the rockers and cage done though so I can stiffen up the body.

Steve what are you going to do about the Doors? I think that I am going to get another 73 but it needs doors and all I can find it 76 and up doors. Would you just cut the door and install the correct plates?

Donovan, GM never made a "special" door for the '73 to '75 K5's. They just took a bandsaw to stock pickup doors to make 'em fit the K5's. [IMG] You just have to move the blockoff plates and rubber end plugs from the old doors to the new ones. This makes it much easier to shop for new doors. You can even upgrade to later model doors with the nicer mirrors and interior trim. [IMG]

No welding required on the Doors? That is cool. That is one thing that I have never had apart. Thanks

hey steve, Dave at KW ONE STOP did mine, he did a kick ass job, he cut it half way up and stubbed it, welded it and finished it. you cant even tell its not factory. you saw it, but dont do that part yourself, it has to be sized just perfect or the the windsheild wont pop in. i need to put on my hard top this week it getting a tad bit nipply at 4 in the morning on my wat to work!
