    \'73 D44 & 12 bolt in my \'88 K5

I have access to a D44 and 12 bolt from a '73 suburban. I am thinking about putting these under my K5. These are my reasons:

-possibly lower gears (not sure of the gear ratio yet)
-I have 3.08 these axles might have 3.73
-12 bolt is a little stronger than my 10 bolt rear
    -possible foundation for later build-up

    My questions are:

-Are these axles a DIRECT bolt-in?
-If not, what is needed to swap these in?
-Will the d-shaft u-joints be the same?

My main concern is brake line and e-brake lines hooking up. What do you guys think?

    Thanks
    Ross

u bolts same size, will bolt in if are all same spring perch distance, should be 42.5"centers

only bad thing about 12 bolt is the tiny pinion stem diameter,

I think the calipers are a little different in the dana44 and the corp 10 bolt. when I went from 10 to dana 44, i had to jurry rig the bolt at the end of the brake line for it to work. 12 bolt and 10 bolt were a direct bolt up job. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

    I believe the 12B ujoint is smaller...takes a Hybrid joint...common part at the Autozone...I have a 12b in my 89...

The connection at the front calipers is different between D44 and 10B. If you can't figure out a way to make the 10b brake lines fit on the D44 calipers, your old 10B calipers will bolt right up to the D44 with no mods, that way you know the lines will work.

So I should be able to take my caliper with the brake line attached and it should bolt up to and go over the D44 rotor?

Does anybody know about the e-brake connections?
Should I try for a hybrid u-joint or try to swap yokes from the 10 bolt to the 12 bolt? If I try the yoke swap what yoke and seal will I need?

    Thanks guys! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
