73 front end on \'81 up frame?

Since I have to swap the front end over temporarily to get my truck registered (hopefully) as a 1973 truck, I was wondering if I will run into any problems. It only has to be attached enough that it won't fall off on the drive to the inspection station.

Since I now have the 4 headlight grille, I assume that if they want to check for safety, the horns and headlight wiring will work fine? I relaize there is only one headlight in '73, but it should still have a 3 prong connector like my '86 right?

Any problems mounting the hood or the core support to the '81 up frame? I have to assume no, my dad went the opposite way, 81 front end on a 74 frame, but I just want to make sure, I will basically have only one day to get it accomplished. Thanks!!

Sounds like allot of work to me!! Anyplace I ever heard of that does inspections goes off the VIN number, which will tell them it's an '81. However, the swap should be no big deal.....I went from '73 to '81 and everything except the hood hinges bolted on....you won't have that problem. '73 hinges bolt to the inner fenders. Lights are all 3 prong...my '81 doner only had one light per side anyway. Sounds like a long shot to me......good luck.

Well, it may seem like a lot of work, but since the vehicle has no VIN, the State Patrol is going to actually create a title for this vehicle.

If it looks like an '81 up, it will be titled as an 81-up. If they do that, since everything prior to '74 has to be smogged here, I will be forced to take my truck in every 2 years, pay (right now) $16 each time to be tested, and on top of that, if I were to fail, and was dumb, would have to show receipts totalling $300 that proved a SHOP (not even yourself) did work on it to try and get it to pass, EVERY TWO YEARS.

I say thats BS, the EPA and the State Patrol tells me thats the way it is. So for 1 days worth of work, I can potentially save myself thousands in expenses in the future. Well worth it to me.

Thanks for the swap info, I won't be happy doing it, but I will be happy when the State Patrol says its a '73.
