I got into my project about three years ago and have had every engine combo you can think. Now I have a 2000 8.1 Vortec and 4l80E. My thing is that my 6.5 turbo diesal had more balls. So should I keep the 8.1 or put the new duramax, allison combo in???

Umm, I'd be glad to take the 8.1 off your hands. I wouldn't go anyhwere near any of those detroits. 6.2 and 6.5 were not exactly a strong point of GM's. Duramax and allison would be the ultimate, but you must be making the big bucks to have all that cool stuff and want more /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

That 8.1 is capable of putting out around 550ft lbs of torque and over 500hp. You might check into a marine cam and computer mods. I think Hot Rod Mag last month had the article.

Well as for the 500 hp and 550ft.lbs I waould not doubt it but at what cost.(As in fuel milege) I already have 125hp nos kit in it and this thing will light the tires up when it hits second gear. But I can afford to keep filling the bottle every week. But my brother has the duramax in his dually and it does the same thing and he's got 44's. By the way this is my daily and I drive about 100 mile to and from work.

Something is definitely wrong here, either you expect to have a dragster or your engine is a fluke.
The 8.1 is a monster and the only drawback is the MPG's. the Duramax is a great engine, and I would kill to get one cheap, but you won't feel the difference in acceleration, but in pulling power, no smoking the tires.
    And the fuel economy too.
I will take the 8.1 off your hands, I will pay the shipping /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Geez...way to welcome a new guy. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Some people do have "connections" like they work at a junk yard, (they see everything that comes in before the public gets to and can get...say a whole donor truck, computer and all) parts store, shop, or dealership (where they could get the motor for the core charge /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif then use a junk yard hook up for the wireing and computer) or like me, dad ownes a shop and can get screaming deals at all of the above. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Just my opinion...... /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

Im not trying to be a jack ass or anything, Im just saying ask for pics or whatever you want to verify it, before flaming the dude to death.

Hell whos to say that ANY of us really have what we claim until someone actually SEES you driving it? Think how many times White Knight has had their pics taken by someone and claimed as theirs on other sites.

I'd still like elaboration on that one too...What's wrong with the Detroits?
