I'm pretty sure the 307 was discontinued well before 81...and that the Olds you're scrapping was originally a 350 diesel which explains the hydro-boost.

The 307 Olds continued well into the 80s. I'm going to say all the way to 87 but don't quote me on that.

307 Olds was continued until 1990, and many of the cars equipped with them did come with hydroboost.

350 diesel lasted until 1985 in cars. Olds 307 lasted until 1990, carbureted until the end.

All the diesel cars were hydroboost obviously, and there was even a 6 cylinder diesel, so VIN N could be that. Whatever, the Olds diesel is the exact same externally as a gas 260/307/350/403, everything would swap over with no problem, including hydroboost, so VIN would be the only way to confirm original engine. (to lazy to go look up the engine VIN)

The 260 I knew about, but the 307 Olds is new to me.../forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif When I saw 307 I thought small block chev. Canadian Olds and Pontiacs often got Chevy small blocks. Our neighbor had an 81 Olds Cutlass with a Chev 267...

Figure this one out. A lot of Canadian Cutlaii in that same time period got Chev 305's, and none of the US cars did.

It's all about corporate sales, which is the reason the same cars sold here are sold under different names up there, just odd that the Chev motors ended up in Olds to the North, and down here it was Olds all the way until GM could finally phase them out.

The great majority of Pontiacs also got Chev motors here going back to the early 60's, maybe even the late 50's. I recall looking at a 69 Pontiac with a factory 396 in it.

Buick's always got Buick motors though, and it wasn't until the late 70's that Olds cars got the small block Chev's.
