Hey guys, picking up an 83 C30 this weekend. Ripped the sticker out of the glove box, and am trying to decipher the VIN code. It's a little hard to read, so I may be guessing on a couple (for instance I say G but it could be a C or an O, etc). Any help is appreciated.

    VIN 2GCGC34M9D1166385

Also, if anyone is looking for parts, I'll be parting it out shortly.

    Chris

Well below is what your VIN is saying now, but if you can not read the tag from the glove box door, something I did and it worked, is find someoone that has a Black UV light, and shine the light on the label and the faded lettering appers under the light

    VIN 2GCGC34M9D1166385
    Model Year 1983
    Manufactured Canada
    Division (unknown code)
    Chassis 2 Wheel Drive
    Body Style Pickup
    Series 1-Ton
    GVWR Range (unknown code)
    Engine V8 350 HD
    Assembly Plant Flint, MI

Hey thanks. Where did you find that information? I found a place on the web that I ran my VIN through and this is what it had to say...

    VIN Number: 2GCGC34M9D1166385
    Country Canada
    Manufactuer GENERAL MOTORS
    Make CHEV TRUCK
    GVRW/ Brake System 8001 - 9000 HYD
    CarLine/Series CONVENTIONAL CAB GMT400* 4x2
    Type series 1 TOM
    Body Style TWO-DOOR CAB
    Engine Type 5.0 V8 CPI U

    Why do you think there is a difference? Also, what's a 350 HD? If it's a 350, I'm keeping it. If a 305, I'm giving it to my co-worker.

Ok, I checked 2 of the 3 sites listed and they confirm the 350. But my other question still stands unanswered...and that is what is a 350 HD?

The 350 HD "Heavy Duty" is a heavy emmissions motor that is used in larger GVW's vichicals, such as Suburbans, 1 Tons, CrewCabs, I do belive that it has a high HP rating than a normal 350, about 20 more horses. In The LMC catalog if does show that the VIn code: "M" for the engine code is listed as a HD motor. For the 1983, 350 HD motor it is rated at 160hp @ 3600RPM, & 250ft-Lbs @ 2800 RPM, At factory spec's, Engine ratings were taken form this link, a page of suburban brochures, the engine rating is at the bottom of the page, under heavy duty emmissions section:
