88 Chev 350 engine modifacations ... \"NEED MORE POWER\"!!!

Ok gents. This is my first accual Chevy "Former Ford man"
I can take a Ford, Turn a few things slap it around a bit, And I'v added a few more horses under the hood !!
But with chevys i'm a little /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
So I'm hoping that a few good men will take me under there wing and give me some tips in the right direction.
88 Chev, about 80,000 miles, 700r4 trans. Engine feel
week. NOT the kind of power i would expect from this moter.
Q: What can I do to get MORE POWER overall and for towing up steep grades? (Without buying a Diesle )/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Swap it out for a TBI 454 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif well, at least that is what I am doing... /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif In my opinion bigger is better, and more power is *usually* mosteasily had with more cubes...But you can toss the heads in favor of the Vortec SBC heads...The vortecs are awesome heads for the price (like $250 a piece, NEW) only thing is that you need like a $300 intake manifold to use the TBI on it..Then also you can upgrade the ignitoin system with and MSD 6 box, high power coil, MSD wires and so on...If you want to get into it further, ditch the TBI setep in favor of a MPFI system like edelbrocks...

Or you can get a screaming deal on a BBC, throw some TBI on it, and watch your 700r4 EAT CRAP because of the increased torque and hp levels.../forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gifHell my 700 ate it behind a STOCK 350 that had 130,000 on it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Start off with headers and good exhaust. The Edelbrock TES is a pretty good system for your truck. Back it up with a flowmaster force 2 Exhaust. Also I woould consider getting a high flowing Cat convertor. Catco makes a pretty good one.
You can get all this from summitracing.com
After you get the exhaust flowing then modify the TBI unit.
Go Here:turbocity.com
Get the multiple performance package- Air flow enhancer, Injector spacer, TB spacer.
Then upgrade the ignition
performancedistributors.com
Scroll down the page and check out the "Screamin Demon coil" And get a 8 pin Dyna Mod.

That will wake up your 350 and really help build the torque needed for towing

Put a new cam in it. Crane, Lunati, Comp, these companies make cams that would greatly improve the power and response of the engine. While you have the engine out you might as well put some aluminum heads, a Demon carb, some roller rockers, and a Edelbrock Victor intake... /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif ...and...and...a super charger, a NOS kit, and CHROME everything!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I read his post and it says nothing about an R.V. cam. Where does it say it has one?

You should fill out your profile with all of the specs on the truck. You have 38" tires listed...is that for the 88 chevy? What gear ratio do you have? If you are running stock gear ratios...say 3:08 and have the 38" tires there is a huge decrease in power. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

There are tons of upgrades listed already to consider too.
