    89\' TBI Throttle Body Cleaning

Any one have any problems/concerns over cleaning a TBI with standard carb cleaner? I just bough the 89' and the unit has some varnish on it. Also, this is my first move from carbed K5's into GM TBI. Any suggestions on care and feeding of the unit? (ie. fuel injector cleaner in the tank every xxx miles).

    Thanks for any info!

they make special cleaning spray that is made for TBI or TPI it about the same price as the carb stuff. and i can't remember what the guy a autozone said why it's different but there must be a reason.

Don't know the difference, but I've seen some Valvoline TBI Cleaner in action. 2 bucks a can, has a special cleaing nozzle that looks good, but it works outstanding. I'd definately recommend it.

If you haven't done so already, change the fuel filter. Looks kinda like a soda can with fittings on the ends; it's inside the right framerail near the T-case. Change it regularly and frequently, and you'll avoid lots of problems.

I have used carb cleaner on my throttle body. But when your using carb cleaner, look on the can and make sure
it says "SAFE FOR OXYGEN SENSORS"

Also, try not to get it on any of the sensors. like the TPS or the IAC

Thanks for the info guys. I had a few cans of carb cleaner left from my 77 K5. I will just use that on my wife's truck and pickup a couple of cans specifically for fuel injection.

WHILE YOUR WORKIN ON YOUR TBI, TRY TAKIN IT OFF THE ENGINE AND CLEANING ALL THE CRUD OUT OF THE PCV INLET.YOU COULD ALSO REBUILD IT WHILE YOU GOT IT OFF,THE REBUID KIT IS PRETTY CHEAP AND IF YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR OIL YOU CAN REBUILD A TBI.
