91 suburban 4x4 1/2 ton auto..-leaking at top of trans-why

    trans is leaking from top of bell housing...some sort of gadget up ther--dont know what it is??...trans is not overfilled...want to fix before trashing tranny if possible but dont know what to do...capable of repairs and pulling trans if needed but want to know exactly how to repair problem if possible without doing exploratory r/r..or do i need to bring to tranny repair place and pay lots of money????

    I Think you are refering to the tranny vent. It is located on top of the trans behind the bell housing
    Sometimes they get stuck open and let some fluid out. Not hard to fix. Just clean it out. But they are a real PIA to get too on some rigs.
