Can anyone tell me as to why when I put the a/c on vent, the compressor remains on?

Maybe the selector on the dash is out of adjustment. If it thinks it is on a/c or defrost it will run.

It may be low on coolant and wanting to cycle all the time.

The selector switch in the dash may be shorted, my friends 86 GMC's compressor ran all the time and the switch was burnt inside. Try pulling the plug on the compressor and see if it shuts off, if not then your clutch is stuck.

The compressor would do just the opposite if the coolant was low. The low pressure cutout would shut it off.
