In June, I turned on the A/C for the first time this year and it made this awful squealing noise. It sounds like a bad bearing when the a/c is off, you can still hear is "swishing/grinding" in there. I didn't use it over the summer, just took the top off, but now I will need teh heater/defrost pretty soon, and now THEY make the same sound . How do I tell what's bad and can I just disconnect hte A/C from the belt system like my Dad did on his 77 suburban? Or is a 87 belt system different? Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe the bearings in the fan motor? Mine always made horrible moaning/squealing sounds when they went bad.
