I have a 79 K5 4x4 with a 12" Lift. I am wondering What would be good gears for muddin'--but still streetable? Also, I destroyed the stock tranny, what Is a good tranny to get with that big a lift? I'm thinking along the lines of a TH400 with an NP208 case??? Any other ideas???
    Thanks alot guys,

I would say TH400 with a NP205 transfercase. We need to know the size of your tires! I am assuming 44" though right ?

Another good tranny is an SM465. It is a manual though. It does have a 6.55:1 first gear to get those big meats moving. Also you probably don't want an NP208. A NP205 would probably be a better choice.

My Chevy isn't broken, its just out of gas.

WEll this question is right up my alley. I run 11" of total lift with 38" tires and 4.56's in heavily modded 12 bolt and 10 bolt. No breakage yet. I love mud and water. this is what I built it for. I will soon be running 5.13's reason why. Well even with a nice 350 massaged it just doesnt have any power up hills. mine final tire choice will either be 39.5" or the 42's but that is as big as im going to get. the minimum 4.88's As for transmission choice th400 built to the nuts is a greatchoice. 208 I do not know about I havea modded 203 and is a tough one to break oh yeah and freakin heavy
