A dirty epiphany

Today's epiphany: Dirt is unbelievably, back-breakingly heavier when you shovel it yourself than when you watch someone else do it.

Corollary: Don't ever shovel your own dirt. Pay someone, anyone, else to do it and don't quibble over price.

NB: although I know other words could be substituted for "dirt" (and not cleverly but obviously I might add), my epiphany involved only dirt and so I am sticking with it.

    That is all.

Corollary: Shoveling dirt or other slimy or smelly stuff from any location to any other location is another good reason to have men walk the earth.

All hail the planetary wang brotherhood.

For those curious as to backstory:

Decided, on a whim of course, that now would be an excellent time to re-landscape the yard. SoCal hits 100+ degress where I am from now until October pretty regularly. It was not quite 100 degrees on the day I had this ridiculous thought.

That meant the inadequate sprinkler system needed to be re-done first.

I thought, "Re-do the sprinkler system? How hard could that be? Get a tencher, go at it for a few hours, and be done."

    I am an idiot.

The epiphany occured too late to stop the insanity. Testing the new and improved spinkler system at 11 PM that night ensured that all the dirt on the sides of all the trenches was really, really wet and cement-esque.

Wet dirt has the same atomic weight as uranium. Maybe more.

Cementesque does not do that particular style of dirt justice. Tis more like graniteesque. Least ways when one is dirt tired (yes that was meant to be punny) and one can hardly lift ones own arms to slap ones self silly for such a rediculous notion to do ones own manual labor.

Alas no I was not watching you. If I were and as I am sure would have been, shall we say, all kinds of flustered to have seen a gal all lathered up from a days toil I would have been in all kinds of trouble with the better half.

One does harken back to a day when I agreed to help a best friend assist with the moving of a tremendous pile of rock from the street to the back yard only to receive a call late in the day to find out we had been granted the privelage of attending a Broadway show that evening with fifth row center seats with no time to change out of ripped up jeans and t-shirts we had been wearing throughout the day of said hard labor.

Yep, that endeared you to the wife in a big way. Was just chatting to a friend the other day about how no one dresses for the theatre anymore, wondering how that happened.

    Now I know. :haha:

Well , gents and ladies, I'm off to Bennington, VT until next weekend. Working. Thankfully no dirt will be involved.
