I saw this trick at a local big rig shop--if you are changing the pinion bearing behind the driveshaft yoke, and the outer race(cup)wont come out--the guy fired up his arc welder and ran 3 small beads on the race in 3 equally spaced spots, being careful not to weld on the case itself--then a dentist pick kind of tool was able to wiggle it right out! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifI guess welding on the hardened steel shrank it enough when it cooled to fall right out--slick trick!Saved him lots of time and labor. This would work on other bearings as well like wheel bearings too!. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

Yep been there done that /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif works good. I used to just runa small bead all the way around the race. then just let it cool and it pops right out /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

I always had problems removing U-joints, didn't have a press, and I ruined two vices. A cutting torch removes the cross pieces in short order and the bearing cups tap right out with the right size socket. Heat is a good thing. Nike
