SENATORS GORTON AND DOMENICI STOP CARA LAND GRAB
    IN COMMITTEE!!!

Yesterday, Thursday March 30, property rights advocates won a great
victory in the Senate Budget Committee. An amendment to include funds for the
pork barrel land grab Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA) was defeated
    by a 13 to 9 vote.

Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) introduced the amendment to include CARA in
the plans for the Senate's budget blueprint. The amendment advocated
creation of a separate trust fund, exempt from the annual appropriations process,
so federal and state governments can spend over one billion dollars per
year to grab land. He was joined by Senators Sarbanes (D-MD) and Boxer
    (D-CA).

Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA) stopped this land grab by introducing a
substitute amendment. It stated that any funds for land acquisition
should come from regular appropriations, and not a trust fund. He was joined
    by Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM).

Gorton's substitute amendment against CARA was approved by a vote of 13
to 9, stopping Senator Johnson from further attempts at land grabbing in
    committee.

Here is the roll call vote. If you live in any of these states, please
give these Senators the credit they deserve!!!!!

    PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS

    Domenici (R-NM)
    Grassley (R-IA)
    Nickles (R-OK)
    Gramm (R-MN)
    Bond (R-MO)
    Gorton (R-WA)

    Snowe (R-ME)
    Abraham (R-MI)
    Frist (R-TN)
    Grams (R-MN)
    Smith (R-OR)
    Conrad (D-ND)

NO - AGAINST GORTON SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT AGAINST
    PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS

    Hollings (D-SC)
    Sarbanes (D-MD)
    Boxer (D-CA)

    *** ALERT!!! *** NEXT BATTLE!!! ***

    > PRO-CARA AMENDMENT PLANNED FOR SENATE FLOOR NEXT
    WEEK!!!!

The same amendment that was defeated yesterday will almost certainly be
introduced on the Senate floor next week, when the full Senate takes up
    the Budget resolution.

Once again, Senator Slade Gorton will be fighting for your private
property rights, but he needs your help to stop Senator Johnson and the other
land grabbers. Call and fax both of your Senators immediately. Email may be
    too slow!!

    Here's what you must do:

    1. Call both of your Senators at the Capitol Switchboard at
    202-224-3121.
Ask them to oppose any Budget Committee Amendment that would authorize
$3 billion for CARA or Lands Legacy. What this will really mean is $45
    billion over 15 years.

    2. Ask your Senator if you can send him or her a fax. Get their
current fax number and share it with your friends.

    3. Resend this message to at least five other people.

    4. Give a photocopy of this email to 5 other people who may not have
    email.

If you call and fax your Senators you will win again!!!

**If you would like to be removed from the Land Rights Network, simply
reply to the message and type remove in the subject line.

I have noticed the same thing and I could post tons more stuff but with nobody on the list that interested in all of the public closures taking place I am not going to spend my time that I could be writing my own senators and congressman to post the stuff here.
