I've got to get out of this country. Yes...it's a rant from 'rip off' Britain again!
I bought $397 worth of bits for my truck from the U.S. It cost $131 to ship, I can handle that as it was a heavy box big enough to climb into. BUT it cost me $332 extra once the English got their greedy hands on it (and yes I am English!)
    use of deferment (????) £12
    delivery (airport to me) £25
    airline handling (this end) £32.50
    cartage fuel surcharge (?????) £0.81
    VAT (tax) £49.95
    duty (more tax) £9.65
customs brokerage (to fax me a form to fill in,
get me to send it to customs, and get me to phone
them with a clearance number!!!) £55.00

That little lot of nothings comes to £184.91 (about $332)
I'm surprised they didn't come around here and tell me to bend over and squeal 'boy'!

Man, I gotta get outta this place! :frown1:

Screw Range Rovers. Heavy, slow, no ground clearance, wollow all over the place, blow head gaskets, rattley dashes, tiny inside, driven by dorks who don't know any better....apart from the Queen who's exempt, and serious off road guys who shorten them, lift the suspension , fit lockers and more often than not....put a Chevy motor in them!

What about all the great English stuff! Like.... Monty Python?

That sounds horrible! Are there any domestic sources for truck parts for you?

Probably. Most Mexican food served here is Americanized. We just corrupt and shape everything into our own. :wink1: :D

There's some great stuff about England. But when it comes to screwing it's citizens our government excell!
There are plenty of retail shops over here but all want pound for dollar plus 17.5% tax as a rule. Sometimes it works out worthwhile shipping stuff in myself....but not this time!

Yeah it was kinda funny. When I was in the Navy I visited France, Spain, Italy, Isreal, Greece, and United Arab Emirates (UAE). What was the first thing I tried to find, McDonalds! Then I was excited when the base in Naples had a Wendy's, and even more excited when I found a Burger King in the UAE.

    Sad, sad. :(

By the way, I missed visiting England by a few months. A lot of the guys really liked it.

Now that I start thinking, one of the places I visited was Palma, Spain. I guess it is (or was) a huge vacation destination for Brits. It was funny because we were in this area with hundreds of pubs all operated by Brits on this Spanish island. No need to worry about speaking Spanish. :D

You wouldn't believe the amount of people I know and customers who have brought property out in Spain. Can't think of anything worse than going abroad and finding I'm surrounded by my fellow countrymen! Brits abroad, on the whole...very embarressing!! :o

    Hey Mark,

The kids will be pretty much at the weight limit on baggage coming back, but I never thought about the trip over. If they can bring ya anything (within reason) PM me. They may be leaving the 3rd of June, not booked yet as the new passports just arrived yesterday from the British Embassy in Washington. They are going to Aldershot.

Hey I like your train of thought Scott, maybe you should pattent the idea! Think how happy the wife would be! She could get loads of shoes and dresses in a set of 44" boggers and she'd be able to just roll them along instead of struggling to carry them! Well...you'll be too busy carrying your new inlet manifold and camshaft to help!!
