<font color=purple> A friend of mine had his truck at work the other day and he popped the hood so I could look at the mill. Lo and behold there was no air cleaner on top of the carb, He said he was doing some things under the hood and must've forgot to put it back on ........... He said he hasn't had the hood open for a couple of days, could that be good ? Is it no big deal ? Fill me in, he's kind of curious too.

I live where it is pretty dusty, and I have seen people run without them for years!

/i'm no mechanic, bet even then I'd never run this way.

I have seen guys run without air cleaners for years and not have problems. Myself, I haven't been that lucky. I went out antelope hunting one day. Before I even started anything up, I popped the hood and checked all the fluid levels. Sometime that day my air cleaner stud broke and that evening I popped the hood again, as my motor didn't sound quite right. I had the air cleaner laying down beside the engine and about 1/4" of dust in the intake of the carb. Consequently, I got to pull and tear down my motor and go through it. It kept fouling plugs with oil and when I tore it down it had gone through a color on the main and rod bearings. Anyway---I don't go anywhere without checking all the fluids and my air cleaner first. Pay out $1000.00 for one day and you tend to remember allot of things!!

<font color=purple> I told him no harm should have been done, but to put it on as soon as he got home. They're made to keep crap out.

Definetly not the most wise thing to do... IMO. I have seen my air filters after a few days and sometimes it is scarey depending on where I have been driving.
