I'm in the process of swapping my engine. I pulled the old engine out about 3 weeks ago. Now I'm in the process of transfering all the accesories to the new engine and I noticed the air pump pulley siezed. I can't turn it by hand, won't even budge a bit. Whats the problem? Do I need a new pump?

i'd say yes- they're like 25 at the junkyard.... don't know what the parts house charges for one.... but if it does not turn over by hand it's shot!

Thanks guys, is that a common thing for air pumps? Its wierd cause it was spinning freely with no problems when I first took it out. Then 3 weeks later when its time to re-install it, it don't budge. I don't get it. Oh well, the Pick N Pull is still open.
    Thanks again

Where did you ever get that idea? My 89 blazer is still factory under the hood as far as smog goes and DOES NOT use an air pump and it has a cat. Someone down the line somewhere fed you some bad info.

so because your system was designed to work without pump you believe that an older system that was designed to work with one doesnt need it?
chev just said 'aww what the hay lets bolt a needless pump on there for kicks'?

The reason for an air pump on older non computer controlled vehicles is to add an extra amount of oxygen to the exhaust stream to help burn unburnt fuel that exits the exhaust system. Since the vehicle isn't computer controlled there are no other devices helping the air fuel ratio like a computer controlled vehicle has. Some of the early computer controlled vehicles still had an air pump though.

    you dont say
i thought it was there to make cotton candy

so removing the 'extra' oxygen means the unburned fuel stays unburned and clogs the cat.
doesnt take long to plug the exhaust to the point where the motor is unable to exceed 3000rpm

You must not know very much about later computer controlled vehicles. You also must not have read my entire post before you came up with a wise crack remark. Computer controlled vehicles burn much cleaner than non computer controlled vehicles. This site is supposed to be informative, but with someone like you giving false information this will soon not be the case.
