This is a garage and you all are a good source of knowledge. In my 95 Acclaim, I was driving on the expressway and the I could not accelerate. No noise, smoke, and I still had A/C and the radio. It has 86000 miles and I thought the engine was good. Any ideas? I would like help before the shop gouges me for more. Thanks.

More detail...? When you gassed it did it eventually go, or just nothing period and that is that? Does it run now? If so does it do anything funny while running at an idle?

Also could be a bad fuel injector or an upstream blockage in your C02.... I had symptoms like these and these were the problems I had... /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

If it died and didn't restart, you most likly broke your timing belt. When cranking it would sound diffrently than anytime before. Like there was no restriction, just spinning free. If it did restart let us know. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

And the winner is...the timing belt.

Are you going to attempt this fix or have it done?
If you want to do it (it is time consuming but relitivly easy, depending on your experance/tools) I can help you. If you have the 2.5l 4cyl. You most likely will NOT have valve issues. If however you have the 3.0l 6cyl. you very well may have some other damage. But it could go either way. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
