Today, my son drove the Jimmy to a local Chevrolet dealer to check on some parts. He parked right outside the service bay entrance and went in and just happened to ask the service manager, (a guy who I thought up to this point, knew what he was talking about) about some parts for the Jimmy.

He was standing with-in 10' of the JImmy and the first words out of his mouth were "Is that 4-wheel drive? I guess the D60, 6" lift, & 37's confused him.

Was getting parts at a local parts store, told the moron behind the counter it's a 1976 Chevrolet Blazer K5 4wheel drive, while looking at it out the window, he asked me, "Is it a Br@nko 1 , or Br@nko 2"

I went in to buy brake pads for my truck at Napa and the guy asked what year (83), what model (Jimmy Fullsize), which engine (6.2L Diesel), 2 or 4 wheel drive (4)...well sir, i don't see they had a diesel in the Jimmy in '83. I asked him if he wanted to see one. Apparently when I said Full Size he thought I said S-15...can't you see how he might get that confused...not to mention the 6.2 liter isn't going in an s-15 without some major work.

I still say mine is the dumbest for saying that Chevy did not make K5 Blazers in '87 /forums/images/icons/confused.gif
I pointed out the window and told him it was originally sold in '86 and was the '87 model year /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
He said it wasn't in the computer.
Stupid parts guys should not work at dealerships /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Guys Guys not to slight anyone on the board who works for a auto part store....but most of those chains hire what I call MW/MI/ME...........minimal wage/minimal intelligence/minimal effort......., when I finally break down and go to a parts store I leave the K5 at home and take the part I need, and just to make damned sure I open the box and check the sh&t out. That way if theres a problem its because the White Knight had his head stove up his b%tt.......which later seems to be happening more and more.......... hmmmmmm...... 1/2timers disease setting in.

Its kind of confusing to parts people to call your blazer a K5 when ordering parts. Not all full size Blazers are K5s. The K5 model VIN no was used in the eariler years. Then it changed to K1 or K10 then in the mid or late 80s.. (maby 88?) they changed it again to V1 orV10.
I think on most blazers the 5th and 6th digit of the VIN no. tells what model it is.
I'v always found it easier and less confusing to call it a Full Size. Thats how its listed in most of their parts computers.
