While I was reading about the new Duramax diesels and Allison trannys, I thought to myself that these trannys have got to be tough as nails. Could you put one in a blazer? Would it be practical or worth it? Not saying that I am gonna or could, just a thought and I wondered how feesable it was.

    Could you-yes.

    Practical-prolly not.

    Worth it-prolly not.

    Cool-of course.

I test drove a 2001 crew cab 2500 long box 4x4 Duramax/Allison. Wanted to try a 6 spd for a better comparison to mine, but didn't have any. Not a big fan of auto diesels, but that trans rocks. Best in class by far. Wasn't to impressed with the motor (didn't have the power I'm used to), but nice trans.

sure you could put one in. the problem lies in that it would cost probably as much or more than the truck itself.... somebody had one here for about 4K, if i remember right...

The Allison trannys are awsome. I love that part of the new 2001 Tor truck we have. The bad part is the fact it has been back for warrantty work twice in 5,000 miles and that the 8100 series Vortech is a slug
