I bought this little 98 Blazer in the summer at what I thought was a steal cause it just needed an intake gasket. Turns out it needed a heckuva lot more...
    So far, I've done:
    -valves
-Intake gasket (twice; after doing it once, then finding valve trouble)
    -Fuel spider
    -shocks all around
    -Tires
    -Plugs/cap/rotor
-hours of cleaning the grimey interior (like disassemble the dash, console, doors to scrub them)
    -misc bulbs
-Drivers door hinge (which is welded, btw)
-Tons more I've forgotten or blocked out

... And hopefully this weekend I'll replace the cat and cat-back, if the cat arrives tomorrow from FedEx.
After the cat, I'm really hoping to see fuel economy go way up, especially since the engine is like brand new now. If the cat doesn't help, this puppy's getting "for sale" scribbled on it...

what kind of fuel economy are you getting now? i had an 95 which would get 21 on the highway and had a max of 23 on the highway once. not bad. i did install a red-neck cold air intake which helped. otherwise it was a bone stock car with nearly 200k on it.

I'm averaging 15mpg over the last 3 months. Before the cat started rattling, it was almost a rock-solid 15mpg, for around town driving, highway driving, and even on a 500 mile trip with a camper trailer and AC cranked. Lately with the clogged/melted cat, it's been about 13-15mpg.
I think the cat has been at least partially clogged since I got the truck, but didn't make itself known til I fixed the misfires (bad valve seats) and didn't see the performance jump I expected. A couple weeks ago, i started hearing a rattle, then "check engine" came on with a catalyst failure code, so I realized the ceramic must have finally broken free and exhaust was now flowing around the catalyst...

The mpg you were getting is the low end of the economy I would expect from this truck, though. I did a lot of reading about the 4.3, and the vanilla 4.3 made 195hp, while the Vortec made 190hp, but had better service intervals and I think more torque. In a '95, you may have had either one, not that 5hp is going to be noticable in this truck.

On a side note, the back end of this truck is ridiculously light... I practically lose traction in wind!!

I'm psyched, look what I took out... I'm pretty sure fuel mileage will go up, I'm already seeing increased power...
