I was minding my own business today sitting in a drive thru when I realized a Blazer Chalet was in front of me. I thought it was just a regular old pickup with a topper when I saw a faded old sticker that said "Blazer Chalet" on the back door. I'd never seen one in person before...only pics on the web. It looked pretty dang neat. How many Chalets are still out there driving around?

My friend's parents own one. They go camping in it regularly. Damn thing is cool, I'd take one in a second.

I been looking for one around Atlanta for years. Just want the camper and will bolt it on the wifes 79. AZBlazer is the unofficial world renowed Chalet/ CasaGrande expert. He owns 1% of all of them built (2). there were a totale of 2,000 built for 76 and 77. He has a web page but I can't find the url. He checks in pretty regular and if you keep this at the top I'm sure he will notice it.

i gonna bust on your math skills, Grim. 1% of 2000 is 20. If he owns 2, then he owns 0.1% of all the chalets ever made.

Not being nitpicky, im just showing off my mad arithmetical skill. I mean, they dont buy me books and send me to college for nuthin, do they?[IMG][IMG]

I've seen one Chalet, I think that they are cool looking, I would buy the one that I saw if I had 4500, this thing has a new 400 engine and new tranny, it's in beautiful shape.

Well...if you live in Phx...the west valley anyways you can see one every day at 11am heading west on Olive ave all the way to 99th ave...then south to I-10...lol. I drive mine every day as of late....the 79 has a slight idle problem...i suspect an HEI failure of sorts ...gonna throw my Fluke 88 on it in the am and check the duty cycle....if it is the dist...its gettin an MSD setup!

From our efforts at our Chalet site it seems the number of Chalets is around 1300...rather than the 2000 number....this has been arrived upon by contacting owners and gettin the serial #'s and build dates from the rear of the camper...so if anyone see's one please look at the back door....to the drivers side there will be a metal ID plate...the serial's (hard to read) run like so...7BCA00443...etc...7/76...etc. It seems somewhere around June of 76 production started and around august of 77 they died....lol. 2 production years but technically they were only built for one year give or take a month.

2 in TUCSON???? I bought mine from a guy in Tucson 2 years ago...he did mention he had seen a ULTRA RARE JIMMY CASA GRANDE running around down there....JimmyJack....$20 cash for the phone number and address of the CASA GRANDE owner...no BS....still haven't ever seen one!!!

I have a CHALET but it is not mounted yet. It has been gutted,
and most of the floor was cut out of it, so when it is mounted, the floor
    will be the Blazer floor.
I will need to make a small floor chunk to join it up at the rear.

Do you think it will still have enough stiffness to use it this way?
Or maybe the sides will bow out?

If there's anyone in the San Diego area that's interested, there's a Chalet in the SUV Trader for $5900. Looks good from the picture. I was proud of myself for even knowing what it was.

Steve_87K5.....i didn't know you had one....they are comin out of the wood work...lol. I see you are from NC...a year or so back i talked with a guy who had a camper around there abouts...he said he found the camper in a farmers field with a tree growing out of it and the floor was trash...and he had to evict the racoon family residing in it...lol. Wonder if thats the same unit? Would you get me your serial number from the camper please...and maybe a photo or two? The floor....you really need to repair that floor! Originally there would have been 6 1"x1" pieces of treated wood siliconed to the bed of the K5 crossways for the camper to sit on....without the truck they are VERY flimsy...i should know...i hauled one back from SoCal two years back on a trailer!!! I highly advise fixing the floor!!!

I bought this Chalet in 1987 in Buffalo NY. The '77 K5 was the worst rustbucket I have ever seen (sold it).
I have had Chalet stashed for a long time, I still plan to use it someday. Just the right thing for the 4x4 areas on NC beaches. Yes, it flexes with the floor cut out, but its just the front 5ft or so that's missing. I have it mounted
to a strong wood frame with castor wheels so I can roll it around. I suspect that when mounted to the Blazer
it will be OK, even with the floor chunk missing. We'll see. I will need to replace the canvas to the pop top also.
I have a scanned-in copy of original GM flyer...what happened to the attachments feature here????
