Altenator ??

    Correct me if Im wrong here. But this weekend I checked the water in the battery adn it was a "tad" low, so i filled her up with "distilled" water and all was good. It has been sitting in the garage getting some minor body work done and this morning they are calling for lseet and snow, so I pull her out to warm up and the voltage gauge was reading fine at a bit over 13 close to 14 or 15 volts. All good right.
    Well, then I turned the lights on and wham it dropped to around 7 or 8 then I reved it up the gauge went up. Id this the battery here or do I have a slowly dying alternator?

    The battery is from July 98 according to the stickers.

    Will work for parts, beer and sex.

    Might be the battery, or the alternator, or the guage. Its hard to tell. Find a good elec. shop and ask some questions. Well, if you can find a good one. Elec problems to me are the hardest to damn find.

    my alternator does the same thing its just cold and the low rpm doesnt produce enough juice im getting a built alternator next mth from the mechanicman in glendora Ca thiers is rated at 175 amp hot he said it will do 120amp at idle hes changing the cables to 00 size also .

    So after you rev it does the Voltage now stay at or above 13V??
    My 120amp alt doesn't 'fire up' when I first start my rig when it's cold! But as soon as the choke keeps it running at about 1200 the alt kicks in. After this 'warm up' the alt does it's job.

    I would toss that old school batt and get an Optima Red Top batt. Then upgrade to a high amp alt and all your troubles should go away......

    Oh ya make sure your alt wire to the batt isn't old and brittle. The older the wire the higher the chance for increased resistance.

    Man I dont know what the hell this thing is doing. If I rev it up it gauge goes back above 13v till I let off. But if I turn the lights off, at idle, the gauge stays above 13v. But I went for the mornign run to the bank and post office for work and it was fine the whole time. So, now Im really confussed.
    Think Im gonna take thew bat out of my wifes Sebring adn see what it does then. SHHHHH, don't tell here Im doing this. She'll be mad. I still haven't told her about the credit card for the rear springs. But after the talk we had today, she's about to find out and she aint gonna be happy. LOL!!!!
    Which ol lady do you please? LOL!!!!!! Why cant both of them be happy at the same time?
