The other day i was on the road and my alternator dies so the truck ran for a while and stalls. i get off the highway and get a new one, it lasted until i got up state and now it looks like it's dead again... i'm lost on it everythign is hooked up correctly as far as i can tell the only thing i can think of is that there is no ground strap on the motor to the block, but i cant see that being the problem.. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

That happened to me recently on my tow vehicle. 1998 Chevy, of corse, 3/4 ton pickup. The original one went so I went to the local parts store and got a reman. That one lasted about a week. Took that one back and got another reman one. This one lasted about 5 minutes. So I went to the Chevy dealer and got another reman, AC Delco reman. Its been about a month now. It's still working. It must have been a bad batch or something.

Have your battery checked. I'm pretty sure a weak old battery can cause an alternator to fry.

Did you charge you run down bat before installing the new alt? If not you may have killed it trying to charge the dead bat.

Are you sure the alternator was working when you put it in? Did you check that you had 13+ volts when running at the battery?

Five days old or not if you didn't charge it after running it down enough for the motor to die you seriously abused the new alt.

Not true, an alternator can handle it.

yea, it went from puting out well over 13 volts and there was a draw of 60+ amps that went down as the battery charged up. parked it over night in a parking garage and the next morning after driving for about 20 mins i noticed that it was dropping in volts and there was a 0 amp draw.

Go return the dead one one you have and go get an AC Delco one at the dealer. They are alittle more but they have a good warantee.
