    Alternator ?\'s

I'm looking at an upgrade for my '87. The stocker just isn't cutting it. What are the recommendations for a replacement (better quality and output) for stock? I have no accesories right now that need extra juice. The only thing I can think that I need to look at besides replacement with a higher output is redo the alt. to battery cable again. Friggin Pep Girls where I bought my 0 gauge replacment battery cables gave me the recommendation of one part number, got home and I had to cut and splice the alt. to battery cable. Higher resistance maybe?

87's were available with a 105 amp alternator if you got the HD electrical option. If you aren't running a winch or a ridiculous array of megawatt off road lights, that should take care of business. Perhaps your current alternator is just getting weak. Most parts stores can test it for you if you just unbolt it and take it to the counter.

I can't remember the # for it, but one of the GM Caprice Police package alternators would be pretty spiffy - We've got them on our Burb's and the Caprice staff car at work, and they're killer - run a 4 rotator bar, along with all the ancillary flashers and scene lights and they still show 13 volts on the gauge.

......And knowing is half the battle
