I'm just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
    Everything to everyone.
Up and at 'em bright and early,
I'm all in my business suit,
Yeah, I'm dressed for success from my head down to my boots,
I don't do it for money, there's still bills that I can't pay,
I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,
Providing for our future's my responsibility,
Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been to strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
    And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrafice,
Oh, and I don't want to die for you,
But if dyin's asked of me,
I'll bear that cross with an honor,
    'Cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an american soldier, an american,
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right,
I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight. American soldier, I'm an American,
    An American,
    An American Soldier

I think Toby hit the nail on the head with this song.

Yes He did. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif Country music has given us quite a few great patriotic songs since 9-11. I really like Charlie Daniels "This ain't a rag it's a flag" among others. Anyone else? List you favorite patriotic war time song! /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

    no brainer, daryl worley...

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
    Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

    CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
    And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
    We had neighbors still inside
    Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
    Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

    CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
    And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
    We had neighbors still inside
    Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
    Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
    Who've gone away to war
And you can bet they remember
    Just what they're fighting for

    CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
    Have you forgotten?

    Have you forgotten?
    Have you forgotten?

I cant stand country, but thats a good song,

    j

thats a great one too. Contry music has always been patriotic. Check out Merle Haggards "the fighting side of me". I think someone should cover that song. It would be a smash hit cause it really fits the crap thats going on in this country right now.

my uncle sent this too me, it's a poem and I thought it was very fitting for what you had posted.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
    It fluttered in the breeze.

    A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
    Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
    How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
    How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
    No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
    When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
    And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
    That Taps had meant "Amen,"

When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
    Of fathers, sons and husbands
    With interrupted lives.

    I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea

    Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
    No, freedom isn't free

Enjoy Your Freedom &God Bless Our Troops

and something from the softer side...

    Artist: John Michael Montgomery
Song Title: Letters from home lyrics

Thanks for viewing John Michael Montgomery- Letters from home lyrics on CM.
My Dear Son, it is almost June,
I hope this letter catches up to you,
    and finds you well.
Its been dry but they’re calling for rain,
    And everything's the same
    ol’ same in Johnsonville.
Your stubborn 'ol Daddy ain’t said too much,
But I’m sure you know he sends his love,
    And she goes on,
    In a letter from home.

I hold it up and show my buddies,
    Like we ain’t scared
    and our boots ain’t muddy,
    and they all laugh,
    Like there’s something funny
    bout’ the way I talk,
When I say: "Mama sends her best y’all."
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
    Waiting on letters from home.

My Dearest Love, its almost dawn.
I’ve been lying here all night long
    wondering where you might be.
I saw your Mama and I showed her the ring.
Man on the television said something
    so I couldn’t sleep.
But I’ll be all right, I’m just missing you.
An' this is me kissing you:
    XX’s and OO’s,
    In a letter from home.

I hold it up and show my buddies,
    Like we ain’t scared
    and our boots ain’t muddy,
    and they all laugh,
    'Cause she calls me "Honey",
    but they take it hard,
'Cause I don’t read the good parts.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
    Waiting on letters from home.

    Dear Son, I know I ain’t written,
    But sittin' here tonight,
alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me,
    I might not have said,
    so I’ll say it now:
    Son, you make me proud.

I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain’t scared and our boots ain’t muddy,
    but no one laughs,
    'Cause there ain’t nothing funny
    when a soldier cries.
An' I just wipe me eyes.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
    Waiting on letters from home.
