And I Thought 4.10\'s and 42\'s was Bad...

...try 3.73's and 42's /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif I thought I had 4.10's because of the numbers stamed into the ring gear-41 10, but after counting the pinion it had 11 teeth, making that 3.73's. I thought it was bad enough with 4.10's but 3.73's and 42's.. that sucked.

Good thing is I am now on 5.13's and thew in a Detroit while I was at it. Talk about nite and day! I can now use all 4 gears in the 700r4 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif At 65? i'm spinning at 1900rpm. I know my tranny is breathing a sigh of relief!

The moral of this story- don't trust the numbers stamped on the ring gear, always count the teeth. I got the 14b from Pick N Pull so the owner of the truck probably had the pinion gear changed at some point and used the same ring gear. IIRC they used 41 tooth'ed ring gears for both 4.10s and 3.73's

Yeah, they both use 41 tooth ring gears.
    41/10 = 4.10
    41/11 = 3.73

    Glad you like the 5.13s!

4.56s also use a 41 tooth ring gear, at least on my 14FF it does

    41/9 = 4.56

    Just so you know

I'm about halfway through my 4.10 to 5.13 change with 40's. I'm glad to see that it was positive for somebody. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
