I didn't want to hijack uglychevy383's post about his conversion to 8 lug...but I have a similar question

I picked up my 14 ff this weekend and have begun converting it to disk brakes...
So now I need to think about my front conversion...
I have a 72 k10 that needs more brakes in a big way..
My question is where does the 72 dana 44 fall in to the year breaks? ? Are the 72 1/2 ton spindles compatable with 3/4 ton hubs?
72 and 73 did use the same brakes didn't they?

Heres what I think I need... thats what gets me in trouble,,,,thinkin...
    73 3/4 ton backin plates 2
    73 3/4 ton rotors F&R 4
    73 3/4 ton hubs 2
    73 3/4 ton studs
    73 3/4 ton calipers (for rear) 2
    bearing seals and grease

    oh yea wheels and tires

so am I totally off or have I figured it out?

    Martin,

The only thing I can see is where you say 3/4 Ton HUBS, you should be saying SPINDLES....that's the part that all the bearings ride on, and that your retaining nuts and washers will screw onto.

That will help people understand you better when you start begging them for parts! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

There is a change in the spindle design, and Wes (ThatK30Guy) knows this stuff in his sleep. The only thing to remember is that the rest of the parts you buy need to match the year of the spindles because there are slight differences and the parts won't mix and match.

Actually, I was reading in another thread about this that the spindles 1/2 & 3/4 ton in 73 were the same. The difference being the hub. I kinda need to know if the spindles changed from 72 to 73. If I had a 73 I wouldn't need to change the spindles , just the hubs , backing plates and rotors. If I'm wrong, thats ok... I'd so much rather be wrong here than at the parts store...

On a side note.... that rear end is ALOT lighter without the drums and hubs on it...

So hows that steering comin? You gona put that on the 44 or the 60?

You can use any 8 lug parts to bolt onto your '72 axle as long as the 8 lug parts fall in the years BEFORE 1977.

Your '72 is classified as the same as the '73 - '76 "first design" axles and therefore will interchange parts very easily. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It's all true...you've helped me out every time I've asked, and always with correct and timely info.

BTW -> I found out last night that my d60 spindles are kinda chewed up (Bad bearings scored the seating area, and the stub shaft rubbed and mushroomed the end of the spindle tube.....

I don't even want to think what a NEW set will cost (Do I?) so I thought I'd ask you first if you had a set that are correct for a '80 D60.

Man, my luck gets worse and worse these days...... /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
