I read this in our local paper (the Brockton Enterprise) last night...under a photo of a boat at a marina in wareham MA,the caption says...

"The fire chief is shown here inspecting a boat for "gas fumes",after its owner "accidentally" pumped 140 GALLONS of gasoline into the FISHING ROD HOLDER HOLE,and not into the gas tank like he thought!"...:screwy:

I wonder if they found any fumes??..:surepal: --:haha:

Can you imagine anyone doing that??--I mean,C'mon!--no matter HOW stupid you are,I'd think you could tell an open hole in the hull ISN"T the gas tank!...like,where is the GAS CAP??...DOPE!!!!:doah:

At the marina, gas costs about 4 bucks a gallon!-- times 140 gallons, thats a LOT of cash, over 500 bucks!...:eek1: ...must be nice to have more money than brains, thats all I can say...

I bet much of the gas was sucked into the foam between the hull layers!...that boat is probably a bomb now!.(I'm suprised it didn't SINK!)..

It musta ruined THAT guys weekend!..

I've seen that happen a couple of times. One guy pumped 400 gallons into a 24' center console. On some boats, the open fuel port looks like a fishing rod holder, so I can see how it'd be easy to do if you were not paying attention/staring at hot wimmens/drunk.

You'd think that one would start to wonder why it was taking so long to fill up his fuel tank...

People are idiots, add water and alchohol and they become even stupider.

One of the guys that works for me went to Powell this weekend with family. His nephew decided to go on a 1AM hi-speed booze cruise and ran the boat aground on solid rock @ 40MPH, threw his friend over 40 ft up the rocks, and all 4 others were injured enough to need hospitilization. Totaled boat with no ins. and a note still owing on it ($11K).

    People are stupid.

That happened to me on Trinity Lake. Two families in a ski boat heading back from a friend's houseboat and the driver hits a finger of land jutting out putting us about 15 ft. up the side of a steep beach. Fortunately it wasn't so steep that we got chucked out of the boat nor was it rocky. However, since it was dark and nobody was out on the lake, we all had to pull life vests, deflated tubes, and anything else we could find over us while we all slept in the boat waiting for morning.

Only boating accident I had was losing both inboards in the middle of the chesapeake bay, ended up drifting into the shipping channel. By the time we got a tug, we were well out of flares, and had to dump one shark, and about 100 fish :(

And somewhere in the bottom of the bay is a water pump to a BBC.

What about the guy who bought a new boat and after taking it to the lake and figured there was something wrong with it because it won't go very fast and having a marina boat mechanic take a look found out the guy launched the boat with the trailer still attached. I just can't believe someone could be THAT stupid.
