I changed out the gauges in my '83 Jimmy to a newer bezel, keeping the deisel speedo in the new bezel. Now the speedo will not read at all. Shouldnt they be the same regardless of deisel or gas vehicle? I thought the electric speedo didnt start til '91? is the newer speedo just bad

I have 83 also. Did you put the cable in far enough for it lock into the speedo? Gauge could be bad. I had my dash apart to replace some bulbs and temp gauge. When I put speedo back in it bounced all over for 2 days until it settled back to normal, took it back out and greased it. I would suggest putting original gauge back in, and greasing cable . /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
