This one is wierd. 108 points for the first correct answer:

During the Civil War there was a shortage of materials necessary to make a certain product. Something was imported from a Middle East country because it was packaged in the commodity that was scarce.

This one is tough, which is why it's worth so much. I need to know:

    1. What was the commodity that was scarce?

    2. What was imported? From which Middle East country?

    3. What was the "certain product" that was made?

    Good luck!!!!

I have to go have dinner. I'll check back in about 20 minutes to see if anyone's got it by then.

I bet I know 2/3rds of this one without looking anything up. The north was short of COTTON to make cloth, cause it was grown in the south. Egypt had their own cotton industry. What the north bought from Egypt, I can only guess at. Maybe palm oil????

I'm getting glared at now for spending too much time on the computer and ignoring somebody. So I give up.

Chloriform is possible, but don't see how it could be used as packaging.

Cotton would've been scarce for the north, but they could just import it by itself.

Paper seemed to be rathar scare too, so perhaps paper wrappedsomething was imported for the paper.

I give up. Can-Can, my girlfriend says your days are numbered for distracting me for so long. :doah: :D

OMG, you guys are really getting close. Except there's a piece missing from the puzzle.

    It's pretty "out there".
