I am an X-10 junkie. I have my whole house wired. I have cameras, remotes, home theatre, everything. And I use it to control my Christmas display each year. I have never used UPB and now that I have all this X-10 equpiment and i have mastered the art of macros. I am with it till the end.

Yeah, that's the kicker -- it's an investment.

Either way I'm gonna do PC control cuz I'm a Perl and WinBatch geek and am a strong believer of web control of everything ... replacing all my IR remotes with a touch-screen, web-based PC :D

Do you find that X-10 is as unreliable as the UPB people claim? I have a ceiling fan/light combo that behaves well IF the light and ONLY the lgiht is on, but if it's turned off or the fan is on the damn switch gets choosy about when to listen to commands :(

Either way I'm not in it for much $$ or time yet, have some X-10 stuff I got a coupla years ago as a promo deal with that Firecracker thing, and have a UPB promo starter kit coming in next week... we'll see how it goes.

Linking the POS and NEG side of my house wiring system made a HUGE difference with regard to responce and dependability. And I have learned to deal with the little irritations that come with X-10. But all in all it is cheaper and more fun than any PROFESSIONAL system could ever be.

My entire house is wired for network, cable, and phone using multi jacks and I have a computer of some sort in almost every room. I am tech junkie for sure.

I will be looking into the UPB for my own education. I wonder how well the two will work together?

I also use automation software for my Christmas display. I will post pics next year. Have a look at this fun stuff.

If you do Halloween or Christmas or any kind of lighting display... this is the best software ever.

I gather that X10 and UPB can coexist as they use entirely different signalling.
