    Any NP205 guru\'s out there?

Is there a trick to getting the bearing assembly off of the input shaft? Haynes says tap out a pin but I dont see any pin.

After just rebuilding several 205's the only bearing on the input is held in place by the tranny to t-case adapter (to keep the bearing from coming out toward the front of the vehicle) and an big snap ring to keep it from going into the case. It should slip right over the input shaft. If it doesn't it may have seized (overheated due to lack of lube) or rusted (water got into the case) to the shaft. The only other bearings on the input shaft are the roller bearings on the inside of the output shaft (the input shaft slides in and they seperate the input from the output shaft but keep them straight with one another. On the output shafts, they have roller bearings between the gears and the shaft that won't come out unless the snap rings, thrustwashers, little lock pins (to keep thrust washer from turning which might be what they are referring to, but they are only on the output shafts), and gear are removed. They are little pins that are removed with a magnet, but I had to remove one with a fine set of needle nose pliers. If you go into the pictures in my CK5 section (follow the link) to the second page where the album is with some tires and springs you will see a picture toward the end of the album, of one of the output shafts and the small pin.

Just go to your "Happy place" and give it a little gentle tap. The bearing may have deformed a little, or caught a little grit (metal, sand, etc) between the bearing and the shaft. Make sure to clean the shaft well before reassembly.

Doh, It was the O-ring keeping it from coming out. It was so old and hard the bearing would pass over it. GOT IT!!

    Thanks, your pics will help!
