When I do alot of crawling on rocks or climbing hills (high RPM low vehicle speed) my temp gauge will hit 230.In stop and go traffic it runs abuot 160.Part of my problem is that I have no fan shroud, none of the wrecking yards around here have any.It doesnt overheat but 230 just dont sound good.I was thinking of running an electric fan along with the engine driven fan to get some air flow at low speeds. What do yall think?

Well I finally 'battle tested' mine last week. I have a stock IROC electric fan and shroud mounted inside the engine compartment as a puller, in front of my 4 core radiator. No other fan. Had a 93 degree day here last Thursday and sat on the freeway for 45 minutes going 5 mph on my way to meet elkboy to deliver the steering stabilizers............never got over 190 degrees the whole time.

Pretty happy with it now..............that was a good test, and the first real heat test it got since we put it in during the motor rebuild last fall.

    Frizzlefry,
I run dual electrics on top of a good belt fan w/ shroud. I have themostat of electrics at 185. They rarely come on except in sit and go traffic and dam hot days. I had some clearance problems, so I had to zip tie (military hand cuff size) the fans to grill. Works great. I think they were only 12" fans too. LOL (Luck)

any hoo I run elctric only and the fan that keeps me cool in the California Heat is the Flex-A-Light BlackMagic M150 rated at 2800cfm. I also use the Summit HighFlow water pump and my temp never goes above 200 with my 3row rad and 100 deg summer days. Good Luck

Isn't this board awesome??? I have a bunch of electric fans in my back yard from various GM vehicles, originally picked up for my S10. I've been tossing around the idea of stuffing one or two into the K5 for a couple weeks now, but my worry was that it would underperform the clutch fan. I never even thought of running both!! Y'all are great!
