HOW to set the pinion depth? Add or remove shims... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif As for how to tell when it's the proper depth, you have to read the pattern, and for that it's hard to help unless you take pics of your current pattern.

the round shim where the pinion unit(?) bolts to the housing? The pattern is just running a little too far out on the ring gear. Might not be enough to sweat. Do I get more shims from GM or where? One more question about backlash- same as 10/12 bolts?

    IIRC it's .08-.012 on backlash

I have a bunch of extra shims somewhere, I can try to find them and send them to you. If not, there's lots of other guys on here that probably have stacks of them. IIRC means "If I Remember Correctly"

now I get it! Im new to this computer chat thing- and I love it! Sure makes life easier. If you can round up the shims, I would be happy to buy them from you. I suppose if I had a depth gauge I wouldnt have to do all of this guessing. Where would you suggest I get a good one? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
