My ex-gf kinda got me into VW's. I still aren't much of a micro bus guy... but then it seems like you from bugs then to buses, I doubt I'd ever own one, but the bugs are kinda cool. I have seem some cool ones at shows. The dune buggies and the "Things" are awsome! Looks like a super nice and clean bus you have there.. so when are we gonna see the VW Bus project w/ a chevy drivetrain and riding on 35's? [IMG] That would be pretty cool.

No anyone who wants to buy a tranny from Rancho Transaxle? its the Pro Street model. It is brand new, never used. I bought it for a '55 bug ( oval window ragtop, long rag) but I sold the bug and the guy didnt want to pay me extra for the tranny. I paid $550 for it. It is for swing axle obviously, and the nose cone is for the early style, so it would fit the '55. It would be cake to change over to the later nose. Let me know if you know of anyone who is interested.

This winter I will be building a sand rail with a 1776 cc stroker. My neighbor has an old Karmann Ghia that he drag races. It runs 11.0s like my firebird.

My daily driver is a '81 VW Cabriolet (love that topless thing). Gots a '86 8V GTI motor in it. Pretty fun little thing, plus I drive about 40 mi round trip everyday so 35mpg helps a little over the 9mpg I get in my '72 K5. Used to have a 4dr diesel bunny. Those things run forever and help with the fleet mileage. Wouldn't mind upgrading to a Ghia convt someday.

i like bugs alot. my friends have several. they buy them cheap, lop off the fenders, take out the glass and throw some mud tires ont eh back and you get the most fun you ever had for $300. when it breaks leave it. just walk out to it for parts to get the next one running. they live on a big farm so they can just leave it where it dies. you can ussually give them a pretty good beating before they give out too.

    Re: Any VW fan\'s?

i used to be all american, but the past 2 years have changed me...3 friends have gti's, 2 have things, 4 have old bugs, and several have newer jettas...
those really are some nice cars...
i tried to get a new TDI jetta a few months ago, but i couldnt afford the car and the insurance....
it was hard even finding someone who'd cover me since i'm only 23...

but i ended up getting a great deal on an older 5 series bmw, i'm almost done rebuilding the top half of the engine, and it should run for a long time after that..
i'm a chevy man when it comes to trucks, but i sure do like the german cars...

one friend has a 67 bug that'll run 11s in the 1/4 with street tires, and another has a 60 some karman ghia built bug thats been in the family since new, thing has 63k miles on it and is completely orginal, looks better than most cars on the road as is...
