I just formated my laptop a few days ago and installed ubuntu dapper drake.

    I love it!

I still have my 3 other desktops with windows on them and wanted to play with linux.

I just got my wireless card working and learned how to remote into my windows machine.

    Good day so far!

nah...WinXP x64 and WinXP Pro in two diferent computers, with the x64 machine dual-boot capable with Windows Vista Beta. The computers we use for calculating targets in artillery are Linux-based...gave me a bad taste for Linux.

I put mandrake on mine once, but couldn't get it to do everything I wanted. Looking for files was a bear too, I was so lost. Ugh. I'd like to try it again sometime, cause I hate windows. What's the best free version in your opinion? Something that's easy to learn, I don't have that much time to experiment.

Ubuntu is what I use. It found all of my hardware except for my wireless card, which was really simple to install.

www.ubuntu.com is the link. The forums, www.ubuntuforums.org , have awesome support.

Well maybe I'll try some of those when I build a PVR. I've heard that SageTV runs well with Linux, and I certainly don't trust windows to be stable enough to run a PVR...

    Hijack Alert! ;)

Check out http://www.gbpvr.com/ for a pretty sweet (and free) PVR app that runs under Windows.

    End Hijack. ;)

I've been using Xandros 3.0 Deluxe on my main machine for 1.5 years now and love it.... i can do all my web development on it better than I can windoze, except 1 thing: graphics. Photoshop is really choppy when run through the WINE system and using The Gimp is like typing with my toes
