I just boat a small fishing boat with a 25hp 2 stroke mercury. 1984 version.

I'm thinking that there should be some sort of gear fluid in the gears which turn the prop. Am I right? Anybody know what type of fluid goes in there? I can't even figure out how to get some fluid in there.

    Any help is appreciated.

lower unit oil... available from any marine store...

should have 2 plugs in the side, one high one low... to fill you pump it in the bottom till it comes out the top plug... sometimes the lower plug is behind the prop..

should be checked annually to make sure it hasn't milkshaked..

Pump it in the bottom till it comes out the top? That sounds weird. Maybe I have to look into some sort of pumping mechanism.

You can use the "tube" of oil, but the pump they sell just for that works superbly!
