By boatsiding I mean cutting out the rockers and some of the side and replace it with 1/4" plate at an angle. PIC's anyone?

Pete from Colorado did at least one side. Rob - Money Pit in the project vehicles did this too. Also, check Marv Springer - I think his is pretty close to being Boat sided, but I doubt his would float! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Here's mine.... Didn't add .25" plate, but it could be done easily. Basically, it's just a 6x2" rectangle tube section welded to the body and then braced down to the frame.

Yep, Pete Corsmitt did the most radical boatside job that I've seen. You might check to see if he has any pics posted in the gallery. His username is pcorsmitt, but I haven't seen him post anything in quite a while... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Boat sided, that thing looks like it was broad sided. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Bada boom, thank you, thank you, I'll be here the rest of the week, don't forget to tip your waitress. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

OK, that's enough for one day, I need to get back to work now.

Thats awesome Baddog! Never seen anything like that before. How much time/money/aggravation was involved in that?

Not a lot of money, if you have a welder, plasma/shear/saw and grinder. But it does require some skill and patience. If it were done all at once (we did it in several part days), I expect that job took about 10 hours, may be a little more, but I didn't really pay attention... I also left the boy to do a lot of the work on his own, things like cutting the sheet, sealing the seams and painting (which he made a bit of a mess with /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ), etc.

Guess I need to get on the ball and learn how to weld. All of these projects, but no skill or welder. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif So, its a good weekend project. Good deal! Thanks!!

    Russ,

Can you take pics from the underneath side of your K5 that show the body mounts. Now you have my curiosity and maybe I should do this to my crappy tub!

Just interested in the pics of the modified body mounts. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Sure, what exactly do you want? These 2 pics show it about as well as possible I think.

    Front Mount:

    Back Mount:

The other pics show how it was grafted in.

Let me know what you want and I'll try to get a pic later today...

I saw those pics and they are helpful, but I am interested in seeing it from the bottom. Just snap a pic from the bottom looking right up at the bolt for the body mount, and I will understand how you made the modification. I appreciate you taking the time. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

BadDog... so the body is now a fixed item with the frame?

What are you doing about the doors?

    Thanks

No, absolutely not. I avoid tying the two together like the plague. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif All the supports are tied in above the body mounts. There will be no doors...

Mudzer, sorry, no pics yet. I'm so busy trying to get things ready for BB03 I'm just running crazy, and now I've got new problems to deal with. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I did just like baddog's son's, but I run modified doors. I relocated the hindge up on the cab and on the door, cut and plated the bottom of the door. And, I still have windows! I still havn't gotten the pics up, but I will.

Re: Anyone ever \"Boatside\" their rig?

Make it snappy - no pun intended. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could you also take pics inside and out, plus underneath. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Also, could you guys measure from ground to top of the rocker panel, then measure ground to body line as a reference?

I want to boatside mine, but will need to lower the truck some so I can climb in. Already have to climb in using the roll cage because my rockers are above my waist line! Woo Hoo!

I've been thinking of lowering the CG anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
