Ive been wondering that too, but havent taken the time to post a question. I have an extra D60 rear that the spindles are rusted up on and are junk. In the one I have its 30 spline spiders so I have thought about getting a late 10 bolt axle and using the housing ends and shafts. I could even set the pinion angle however I want too. But then its still only as strong as the outter joints of a 10b. /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif Im just curious if anyone has done it.

And no its not easy. You would have to set the axle ends right or it would never handle properly, PLUS making sure the welds are good. Then on top of that there is no pad for a spring on the diff housing, so the cast center section would need to be set towards center some to weld onto the tube. That could cause a drive shaft angle problem.

I saw this done on a dana 80 a couple months back in a 4wd magazine.... both diffs were in the middle and had custom spring purches mounted on them... Guy had a big red flamed first gen that is badass...

Ya.....that was in the Aug '02 FOURWHEELER. He has his own driveline business so he was able to take 2 rear Dana 80's out of 2 F450's and convert them. The pumpkin on the front axle was in the center. He had a divorced NP205 that he indexed so that it was verticle, with the front output directly below the rear output. The steering knuckles were bolt on as well. Pretty trick if you ask me!! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

That rig was sweeet! If you look at the pics youll notice that the roll they referred to at the end of the article must have happened during the shoot. In some pics it has a windsheild and doors. In some it doesnt, and the hood is all wrinkled up. The bolt on spindles were super trick. What was the tubing thickness like 3/4 inch?!?! WOW!

OH now that hurts! The only hurdle left would be the right side spring pad.

Don't forget about what may be the ugliest hurdle of them all....there is no provision for the axle seals inboard by the diff in a rear housing. A machine shop can create a place to put the seal, but I bet it ain't cheap! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif
