a money order stolen/cashed by someone who was not the intended recipient? I sent a postal money order out 2 weeks ago for a TPI setup. The guy emailed me earlier this week wondering if I had sent it out. I had the USPS look into it (it was a postal MO), and the thing has been cashed (May 24). They are 'investigating'. ANything else I can do? Besides be f@#$ing pissed?

Sorry to hear about all that. Isn't US Postal money orders insured ??? Don't they write down the person who cashes it's driver license number ??? It should be just like a check and be able to be tracked that way.

What I am afraid of is wherever the thing was cashed the employees are as lackadasical as they are around here. I can cash a MO, check...anything at any bank or convenience store without ANY ID.

There are a few ways to help protect yourself on Ebay. Both sellers and buyers have ratings. Make sure they have ALL positive feedbacks in the ratings. If they have no, or very little feedbacks, be warned....

Using PayPal as a buyer or Seller is another good way. This uses your credit card info to transfer money from one bank to the other and they also have a "verified" ranking for their members.

If you are selling, NEVER ship without recieving payment. Which means cashing the money order or waiting for the personal check to clear. And always insure the shipment.

Ebay has a whole section dealing with this. I would advise people to read it if you plan on doing ANY online transactions, even if it's not on an online auction.

Also when sending money orders send it Priority Mail, or send it certified. Never had any problems.
