I just picked up a 2WD 90 Ranger for free but needs a tranny. It has the Mazda Style 5 speed. It's operational but VERY noisy in all gears but 4th.

I changed the fluid, lots of metal residue and burnt smell of course.

Im looking to rebuild vs. paying out the A$$ for a used or rebuilt one.

Can anyone help me with some technical info on a home rebuild, other than scrap it. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Since its a 2WD how about using a 5 spd from a Mustang? Anyone know if they share the same bellhousing pattern?

Well I had a 4x4 version and it came with a Mitsubishi 5 Speed, they are both JUNK. Cost me a grand to have it rebuilt. It died again less than a year later, then I dropped 1500 for a World Class T5 converted by Advance Adapters and it bolted right in and I had NO more problems.

I have thought about it. But I'm on the Dark Side of the Moon when it comes to Fords. Any additional info would help alot. I got this dawg pulled last night, or this morning, I should say. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
Anything that will be $750 for a used one or $1000 for a rebuilt.
