No jackass. It's not, "An army of one" meaning you're an indivdiual. It's, "One army" as in, we're all one.

    Get it right jackass.

Yes, I'm aware. I shouldn't have to defend a gay motto. But it doesn't mean, "I am Rambo." It certainly implies that.

Actually, the Army's new motto is "An Army of One". I highly doubt all their TV and radio commercials, printed media, webpages, and billboards are wrong.

Whatever the deeper meaning is supposed to be, it makes the Army sound like a band of individuals rather than a team. Not a dig at our Army dawgs here, just my humble opinion...

And I thought Carl was going Air Force?

The motto is, "An Army of One" but it's not intended to mean, "Each individual soldier is Rambo." This was drilled into our heads repeatedly starting the first day of basic training. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

    Carl did go Air Force.

84... I was merely stating the slogan, and how it translates to a non-army person (and mind you some army guys) You can not tell me the commercials they run don't show an individual doing some cool stuff and at the end says " 'I am' an Army of one." If that got yer panties in a bunch, don't know what else to say except ask your chain of command to stop the ads...friggin pogue

You know, I gotta say that I can think of many other things to be learning in basic training that are much more important than an explanation of what the Army's motto really means, as opposed to the image it creates in the minds of today's youth. And for the record, I do understand the real meaning; I figured it out the day I heard about it. But I did laugh a lot, 'cause I KNEW there'd be a lot of explaining to do to todat's recruits. "No, Private. Just because you're 'An Army of One' now, doesn't mean that YOU get to make up the rules as you go along!"
Oh well... The Army didn't consult me before they decided on this change, so what does my opinion about it matter...?

They are supposed to spend 4 hours a week on the Army's "Core values" of:

    Loyalty
    Duty
    Respect
    Selfless Service
    Honor
    Integrity
    Personal Courage

The Drill Sergeants took this time to ask us every week how many had smoked weed prior to joining the army, and drill into our heads never to do it......

By the end I was wondering if I was the only person who'd never toked up that was in my battery, made me sick...

Lol....your sentence beginning with, "No Private...." is just about what it sounded like.

I couldn't agree more though.....it's such a stupid motto. Then again, "Accelerate your life" or "Aim high" are similarly gay. I'd say, "Earned never given" is the most appropriate, and I personally think something like that should apply to all services.

Note that according to my basic training platoon sergeant, the Air Force is not, "Service." /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif The first day he asked who was, "Prior Service." Two guys raised their hand and were called on, and asked what their, "Service" was. Both were told, "I SAID SERVICE, DAMN YOU!"

Funny thing is that one of them had spent more time deployed in the past 3 years than he had at home--joined the Army just for the Warrant Officer program to fly helicopters. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    Ahh, the memories....... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
