Yeah, and then hoof it the next 1500 miles.:D

Seriously, I would try somewhere bigger in the vicinity and go ground from there, seems a pretty remote place for a bargain flight.

yeah, i just don't know what would be a larger place to fly into and would still be relatively close to where we're going - which is essentially the middle of nowhere - a 75 person village!

If you fly Mexicana, good luck. Having worked at an international airport, I will say that they have the absolute worst maintenance of any airline. They never, ever have anything fixed in the U.S. preferring to wait until they arrive home. And even then, the planes are barely held together. True story; the missus and I are newly married. We scrape up some dough to go to Mexico, Cancun at the time I believe. We arrive in Cancun and they have lost our luggage. It showed up two days later. Then, on the way back, the pilot comes over the intercom and says "folks, looks like we might have to make a detour into Calexico to get some gas". WTF?!? After about an hour or less, he comes back on and says "Never mind, we think we can make Los Angeles after all". You think you can make L.A.?!?! Add to the fact that the entire airplane interior was lime green and we swore never to board Mexicana ever again. It just confirmed it working at an airport.....

i'll make sure and hang on to that tip, as it usually is my custom. :D besides, if we hold our trucks together with plastic zip ties, then maybe the mexicans are on to something w/ their bailing wire. :)

Jet Blue only flys to about two dozen cities, and most of them are on the east coast.

Try calling Clark Howard's radio show on Fri. He is a consumer advocate (ie, cheep bastard) and does travel issues every Friday 1-4 PM EASTERN time. He used to be in the travel industry. Here is his web site http://clarkhoward.com/

Have you tried going through a travel agent? Situations like this are when they are still useful.

You said you checked the "usual", does that include Mobissio http://www.mobissimo.com/search_airfare.php and Sidestep http://www.sidestep.com/air/ ?

Hopefully one of those options helps. Have a safe trip and I want to see pics when you get back.:D
