    Anyone own a 01\'-02\' 2500 HD with the 6.0?

if so how does it do for towing??
i went to go look at a 01 2500HD 4x4 crew cab and was wondering if it a good choice for a tow rig. i'm still shopping so any info would be nice.
i would like to find the same truck, but with the 8.1, should i just wait till i find it??

My Dad has an '03 (traded in his '99) and loves the 6.0. Tows a 30' fifth wheel with it and gets around 10 MPG highway (remember- old guy driving!). I am pretty sure he wouldn't take a 8.1 if you gave it to him. My brother has an '01 D-Max he uses for towing a 3 car trailer. He used our Dads truck for about a week and liked it, had decent power, but mileage and overall performance was not quite as good as the D-Max. He considered replacing his truck with a 6.0, but picked up his new D-Max yesterday. I don't think you could go wrong with the 6.0. Definetly a less expensive option you should benefit from buying used. I personally think all of the diesel engines (and the Allison) are a little expensive these days and would probably opt for a 6.0 myself.

Re: Anyone own a 01\'-02\' 2500 HD with the 6.0?

I stumbled upon some sites when looking at tow vehicles and was surprised at how much the 6.0 can pull. I might end up buying an extended cab 2500 HD with the 6.0 & 4.10's...maybe. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Silverado/Sierra 2500 HD 6000 V-8 9,200 (c, h, i)
    Silverado/Sierra 2500 HD 4WD 6000 V-8 8,800 (c, h, i)
    Silverado/Sierra 2500 HD 4WD 6000 V-8 10,800 (d, h, i)

    (c) Requires 3.73:1 axle ratio
    (d) Requires 4.10:1 axle ratio
    (h) Requires heavy-duty tow package
    (i) Requires automatic or manual transmission

I think the rating is 500 pounds lighter for crew cab's, still plenty of pulling power for a 1 ton K5.

    thanks for the info /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

plenty of 6.0s out there, so that'll make the choices a little more to pick from.

towed my 69 camaro on a 2100lb. u-haul trailer w/ 99 2500 reg cab 4x4 long bed, 6.0 -- PLENTY of power -- had to watch my speed - I would look down and be running 70 or so.
In other words I think they make great tow rigs for cars, blazers, etc.

my cousin has a 6.0 chevy w/ 4.10's, tows his 3/4 suburban no problem, combined wieght of trailer and sub is around 9500 lbs. i think he gets around 8-9 mpg towing and around 15 empty. i have a 2001 hd with the 8.1 with 3.73's, towing my k5 and gear which is about the same wieght, i get about 10-11 mpg, empty is around 14 highway and 10-11 city but i have a heavy right foot. the 8.1's a little less common than 6.0's but i think they are both good engines, either way you can't go wrong. good luck

Good info to know. Thanks! I'm looking at buying an '03 myself and getting rid of the Tahoe. Test drove one and fell in love with it but the real test is towing the Blazers!
