    Just How Crazy Are They?
    By Alan Caruba

In an "open letter" to Vegan Voice, a publication for vegetarians, Karen
Davis of United Poultry Concerns, wrote "In conclusion, I think it is
speciesist to think that the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center
was a greater tragedy than what millions of chickens endured that day and
what they endure every day because they cannot defend themselves against the
concerted human appetites arrayed against them."

Yes, you read it correctly. Ms. Davis is comparing the lives of more than
3,000 men and women who died in that attack to the lives of CHICKENS.

She goes on. "Perhaps the word 'tragedy' should not be used anyway in this
context unless in the more precise sense of a fundamentally terrible thing
happening to a human being who consciously or subconsciously brought the
terrible thing upon him or herself, lived through it, and gained insight and
wisdom as a result. In a classic sense of tragic drama, it remains to be seen
whether America is a 'tragic hero' or even a 'tragic' victim."

This soulless protector of chickens is asserting that the most important
thing about the September 11th attack is not a tragedy for those who died,
those family and friends who survived them, and the nation as a whole. She
even suggests that they may have brought the attack upon themselves because
they showed up for work that day. Or they responded to the scene and gave
their lives trying to save others. Then she questions whether America is a
victim of the worst act of terrorism ever perpetrated against this nation.

"If though, the question is whether the World Trade Center attack was worse
for its thousands of human victims than the sum total of misery and terror it
was for millions of chicken victims that day, I see only one nonspeciesist
    answer to the question."

If you'd like to tell Ms. Davis the difference between killing humans and
killing chickens, you can write her at United Poultry Concerns, PO Box 150,
Machipongo, VA 23405 or email her at Karen@UPC-online.org. For more
information about this organization that cares more for chickens than humans,
you can check it out at www.UPC-online.org.

It's worth noting that the 9.11 attack didn't deter the crazies who think
that the lives of animals are equal to the lives of humans. Three days before
the attack Animal Rights lunatics torched a McDonald's restaurant in Tucson,
Arizona. Following the attack they set fire to a maintenance building at the
primate research facility in New Mexico, released minks from an Iowa fur farm
twice within a week, and firebombed a federal corral for wild horses in
    Nevada.

Federal authorities and State police are trying to determine if radical
Greens were involved in placing two bombs that were found and disarmed at two
forestry buildings on the Michigan Tech University campus in Houghton,
    Michigan.

Meanwhile, two environmental groups are suing the Bush administration to
block the removal of charred trees from a forest ravaged by fires last
summer. The Wilderness Society and American Wildlands filed suit on December
18th to block the expediting of a timber-salvage program on 44,000 acres of
the Bitteroot National Forest in Montana. If this sensible forest management
effort is not undertaken, these charred trees will be nothing more than
fodder for the next fire a bolt of lightning will ignite. What these two
groups want, like all their Green brothers and sister, is to insure that our
forests burn rather than be tainted by the use of human beings.

The Animal Liberation Front claimed credit for four of the attacks and the
Earth Liberation Front took credit for attempted bombing. David Barbarash, a
spokesman for both groups said that the September 11th attacks has changed
nothing for these Green terrorists. Barbarash says that these animal rights
and environmental gangsters aren't terrorists because their aim is not to
harm people, but to protect animals and the environment. ALF and ELF are just
terribly misunderstood because they "are acting out of compassion for all
    life, including human life."

Meanwhile, they go around destroying facilities that are engaged in
invaluable medical research or which pursue commercial activities that
include fur farming and private property such as the Vail Ski resort in an
    October 1998 fire.

In December, it was revealed that federal and state wildlife biologists had
planted false evidence of a rare cat species in two national forests, the
Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Wenatchee National Forest in Washington
State. Had they gotten away with this despicable perversion of science, the
evidence they planted would have led to the banning of various forms of
recreation and use of these two forest areas.

As this new year begins, the law enforcement and other agencies of the
Federal government are focused on determining who among us poses a threat of
militant Islam, but for decades now, Animal Rights and Greens have been
engaged in a massive campaign of propaganda-lies-that have imposed bans,
limitations, and increased costs on every aspect of our lives. Some have
engaged in arson, break and entry, vandalism, and theft to advance their
cause. In addition to the Islamic militants among us, we have a cadre of
terrorists who need to be hunted and jailed before they become further
emboldened to harm our lives and our nation.

You think if those people "knew" there was going to be an attack, they would have still showed up for work anyways?
Geez, where does this woman think she stands saying crap like this?
I personally think she is just saying this for publicity and for her "fifteen-minutes-of-fame." [IMG]

Anybody want to go overseas for some duck hunting? Then we'll lock and load and head out for the chickens... And then cows, pigs, fish and idiots ranting and comparing animals to humans... [IMG]

Some people are only still alive because it's unlawful to dispose of them. The author of the original article comparing chickens to the WTC attacks is definitely one of that variety...

This stupid ***** should have delivered this wisdom at the last firefighter funeral I went to. Then maybe her family could speak on behalf of the chickens at her soon-after funeral...

I've got a nice green patch of grass she can munch on [IMG].
And you know...she prolly claims to be a christian too [IMG]

So, what is she doing about the foxes, wolves, dogs, cats, etc that eat chickens? Is she lecturing them too? And what about the Chick Fillet slogan? "Eat More Chikin". I don't hear her raving about that?

dude, what the hells wrong with chicken? I mena yeah, sure it isn't as manly as say gnawing on dead cows, but its still good stuff... if vegitarians don't eat meat, how do they compare various foods? I mean everything tastes like chicken, so what do they say? `tastes like my lawn'?

I'm sorry, but the closest to animal rights I get is Dolphins, cause they actually have a measureable IQ... perhaps some apes/chimps/monkeys, but Chickens? no way! not the dumbest animal on the face of the planet! they're like turkey's: it starts raining, they wonder whats going on, and stare up at the sky, mouth wide open, until they drown on the falling rain. `If god didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?' hell, if one wants religous proof, one can turn to the bible, where it says basicaly ( and heavily butchered) Animals were put here for man to use, and eat. besides that, how do we know the plants aren't screaming out in pain, when they get uprooted? they're alive too you know, its just they can;t run. `vegitarianisim is an excuse for not being able to hunt'

over here in phoenix, an eco-terrorist was burning new homes down in the squaw peak montain preserves area, to `preserve natures ways' and other assorted BS... as it turns out, he not only was NEIGHBOR to one of the new houses, but lived CLOSER on mountain then most of the homes he torched. for that matter, the Squaw peak parkway was one of the most hindered freeway projects ever. people had bought land that was clearly on the freeway right of way, built houses, then refused to move when the state came through a year down the road. because of that, the freeway is too narrow, and has more curves then a bucket of snakes. even now, only 2 miles from linkup with the new 101, there's a good chance of it never actually getting finished.

one of my old boss's was a semi extreme Vegan... he refused to eat meat, of any kind, any dairy, use anythign made out of animal, except for wool, and occasionaly give us a minor reaming for eating things made out of meat... he wouldn't stop us, just occasionaly try to gross us out by pointing out what was done to the animals to make that... I'd get back at him ( jokingly of course) by tellinghim what was done to the vegitables he'd be eating, and point out `thats not food, thats what food eats"

oh well, enough ranting... now is time for bombing this dumb lady's mailbox back to the stone age....

As our resident fervent VEGAN do I dare jump in here???...

no comparisons to 9/11 are appropriate.. that kind of crap is for shock value.. its an old game for bringing attention one's points of view.. I wouldnt give it the time of day. If the knucklehead broad really wanted to do something she would put together a group of lawyers and sue some meat or poultry producer for environmental damage.. or do undercover expose' of conditions on ranches... or the use of illegal aliens to clean chickens.. thats how you address an issue with teeth

alf/elf are terrorist organizations and should be dealt with as such.. hung up by the balls and dragged by ck5 trucks over old winch cables

eating meat/chicken is both cruel and unhealthy and absolutely unecessary for sustaining quality life

we are indoctrinated by agribusiness and slick marketing and because many of your parents imprinted an unconscious behavior upon you... a conscious evolution path in life is thinking for yourself, using all available science, medical, and yes, spiritual data to make an informed decision.

our dwindling food supply is made unsafe because of beef/chicken production and by-products/waste of the industry.. this includes vegetables contaminated with e choli

One trip to a chicken farm and you wouldnt be so quick to jump for that Mc Chicken sandwich... most people dont have a clue where their food comes from.. or care... until they get some weird cancer,,, then its too late.. is it fun crapping a dead animal out your butt?... no thanks...Ill never experience that

Thanks Cam, my first good smile today!:haha:

And as far as ALF/ELF, if more vegans would reasonably voice their opinions and denounce/distance themselves from organizations like those, public opinion on veganism (?) would be drastically different. Thanks for not conforming to your stereotype.

i'm in no way anti-vegan... if that's the way someone chooses to live, i'm cool with that.

that being said, i don't understand the cruelty aspect behind veganism. is the cruelty only in animal-man relationship? i do know that there's a lot of animal cruelty in the farm-industry (believe me... there's tons of propaganda at my school! even the student union is vegan!), but do vegans have a problem with carniverous animals? if not, what's wrong with me going hunting and enjoying the food i catch? if that is a problem, why are there no vegans out there with signs of protest:

maybe i just don't know what the vegan manifesto is.

also, if i understand correctly, vegans are not interested in any product or food which was created by use of animals... what i mean is those products that are from animals, or their dead bodies. so, how do vegans feel about milk and cheese? i feel like i heard somewhere that they're against it... is that true? why? i drank milk from a human for a year or so when i was little... ???

    just curious.
