I want to lock our accounting folder on a computer on a job site so only I can get access to it. I did a search on google for some sort of folder lock program and half of the stuff that showed up also got warnings of being malware or trojens or other crap.

I don't need anything too high tech, I don't have any out of work software engineers swinging hammers for me, just something that assigns a password to access a folder and file in it.

    Anyone got any reccommendations??

    Thanks,

    Eric M.

PS If it works well, I'll use it for my porn too :wink1: I thought I'd make that crack before anyone else did.

Ways to do this are built-in to a properly set up and used Windows XP Professional system.
If it's Windows XP with an NTFS drive, and you have your own log on account, you can specify in the properties of the file/folder that you want it encrypted. That doesn't give you a password prompt to open them, but it makes it so only your logon account can open them, not someone else who logs on to the computer or an administrator. If everyone uses the same logon account, the encryption will be ineffective and a 3rd party suite is the way to go.

    Good luck!

Yep, that is the issue with this system, no logging on and off, it just stays on all day.

Microsoft made a thing called "my private folder"

it was pulled ovre fears that people would lose valuable info should they lose the password to the folder. I've been using it for a while and it works perfectly.

google for it and you should be able to find the installer.
