Brad (White-Rhyno) came over last night and brought a big grinder w/ him. We weren't sure what to do w/ it so we decided to shave my rearend... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I also took it out and my friend and I welded the spiders up... it will be really nice to be locked in the rear again!

Very nice. How long did it take? I wish I would have shaved mine when I had it out.

Mike I was using a 6" grinder. It took about an hour off and on. That grinder i had was old. Had to be easy on it. I also wish i did mine when it was off.

I just got a new plasma cutter.. been thinking of shaving it that way.. but worried about the heat... and I'm not ready to drain it.. so it will be a while. I need the clearance since I'm dropping back to 37's

Thats affermative! It took some metal off, but not sure it went any faster than just working w/ a grinder. I would have liked to try it w/ a plasma cutter...just to see what happens.

Depending on how motivated I get, I might give the plasma a shot to get me close, then grind the rest. I'll let you know.

Here's some pics when I did mine.

    After:

I timed it. Took me 15 minutes with a Sawzall. I used a good long blade called "The Torch".

Followed up the sharp edges with a grinder. (5 min)

Hard to tell from the pic, but the sure fire way to tell is to count the big holes in the side of the carrier where the cross shaft goes...open carriers have 4, gov loc's have 3

I also did mine with a sawsall...only I made 3 cuts. One across the bottom and 2 on the sides up to the "ears". I then finished it off with the grinder. Took about a hour total (I did it befor I put the axle in the truck).
